Physical Appearance: Gabby has always felt really short since even at
5’5" she is a good 3 inches shorter than anyone else in her family. For whatever
reason, she was not blessed with what she calls the "tall" gene that seems to
run in her family. Gabby has very long and painfully straight long brown hair.
When she is on duty is always pulled back in a ponytail. Gabby was born on Earth
in her parents’ native France but has no trace of the French accent whatsoever.
Personality: Gabby is a glass half full kind of girl. She tries to always
maintain a happy and cheerful attitude. She has always been a bit shy, although
she has learned to give the illusion of confidence. She has an insatiable
curiosity about everything. As a child her favorite word was "why." Gabby has
always loved to know how things work. When she was young she loved taking things
apart and trying to put them back together. This generally got in her trouble;
as she was never all that great and getting them back without a few extra parts
leftover. She doesn’t always make friends easily but she is fiercely loyal to
those she has.
Other Pertinent Data: Gabby has wicked sense of humor. As a child she and
her siblings loved playing pranks on each other. It was a constant and hard
fought battle to see who could get the better of whom. She is always up for an
adventure. Her personal motto in life is "No dilemma is too big." Her father
used to tease her and say it should be "I never met trouble I didn’t cause."
History: As the daughter of a Starbase Commander Gabby grew up moving from
station to another as her father progressed in rank. She spent many an hour with
her nose pressed up against the glass watching the constant parade of ships that
would come and go on a daily basis. She loved to make up grand adventures and
stories about them. For example, once a really beat up looking cargo ship
docked. It appeared to have sustained a lot of damage. The scars on the ship
looked like they could have been caused by phaser fire so Gabby decided the ship
had been attacked by pirates and were probably carrying some exotic cargo.
When she was not staring out into space she could usually be found lost in a
book. Gabby loved to read. She loved thinking about all the faraway places that
she never got to visit. But her favorite thing to read was tales of the heroic
Captain James T. Kirk and the crew of the Enterprise. She often wondered could
anyone really have done so many amazing things.
When Gabby was about 16 her father, tired of life in space, accepted an
assignment at the Academy on Earth. Gabby had not been on Earth since they left
when she was a year old. Adjusting to life "on the ground" was a lot different
than she expected. To this day her family still teases her about her first
experience with a thunderstorm. Gabby went running into her parents’ room
yelling for them to get up that their house was under attack. But after all it
didn’t rain outer space and while there was the occasional ion storm it was
nothing at all like thunder and lightening.
Gabby would never have guessed though that her future was in communications.
However, one day while on a visit to the Academy with her father Gabby met
someone that changed her life, Admiral Thomas Santrock. She snuck in and heard
him lecturing a group of future cadets about his career, experiences and what
life in the fleet had done for him. Listening to him talk about his time as a
communications officer on a starship Gabby found herself becoming more and more
interested. It combined a number of things she really enjoyed. She would get her
chance to perhaps serve on a starship. She would have a position on the bridge
where in her opinion all the action was. She would finally get to travel and see
the galaxy. Also she had always had a real affinity for picking up new
languages. It stemmed from her desire to be able to talk to all the many
visitors that she had meant while living on a Starbase.
So as soon as Gabby turned 18 she enrolled at the Academy. She had always
known that she wanted to be in Starfleet and now she knew exactly what she
wanted to do. Not to mention her two years on Earth confirmed for her that outer
space is where she truly wanted to be. For Gabby knew the color of the sky truly
prefers is black.
