She posses a well developed sense of humor, "which is a must in a large family." She also possesses a volatile temper.

History: The Costco gens (clan), not a patrician family but a member of the Equestrian order, played an important role in the development of the New Republic of Roma. Drusus Marcellus Costco (Lannie’s grandfather) was Tribunus militum of the Praetorian Guard at the time of the USS Beagle’s disaster. The city guards brought the crew of castaways to Costco. Drusus was deeply influenced by the survivors and he was able to keep Flight Officer William Harrison safe for six years. During that time, the two men became close friends and Harrison spent time as tutor to the Costco children, including Lannie’s father. The Emperor’s capricious sentence of Harrison to death caused Drusus Costco to join the growing group of democratic revolutionaries. With his position as Tribunus militum and the loyalty of his soldiers, the fall of the Imperial government was remarkably quick and peaceful.

Early Childhood (2287-2300) From birth to early adolescence Lannie grew up as most children on Magna Roma. Schooling and family life are very important to most races and Romans take great care to impress on their children a strong sense of national pride. Their lives are extremely structured and they learn at an early age of the rich cultural heritage their people share.

Adolescence (2300-2304) Lannie took advantage of the excellent academic institutions of her native planet. She enjoyed the support of her family throughout her secondary school years and it came as no surprise when she chose a career in the Helios Legionary Forces.

Higher Education (2304-2309) Even with her Father’s prominent position in the government (governor of Italy), Lannie had a difficult time securing an appointment to the Helios Fleet Academy. At this time, very few women have chosen such a dangerous career and Magna Roma has only recently begun planetary exploration of their system.

Legionary Service (2309-2313) Lannie served her first year on Magna Roma as an aide in the Department of Engineering. She requested and was granted off-world duty serving on Terminus (the 11th planet in the Helios System). Terminus is the farthest natural outpost and from here three artificial bases have been built and put into orbit. Lannie was involved in the engineering work done for the orbiters’ weapons systems.

Starfleet Service (2313-present) In 2313, Lannie applied to Starfleet and during the next year completed the Rapid Integration Program. By attending RIP, officers from other races are brought up to date on Starfleet and the Federation. Upon graduation, she carried over her rank of Centurion (Lieutenant). LT Costco requested and was granted duty onboard a starship. USS PHOENIX is her first Starfleet posting.
